    I am re-posting this because the thread it was on was closed for other reasons:
    After auto-upgrading to 3.0 I lost my website. After reading in the forums I got the impression that it was a plug-in issue, so in my file manager (godaddy) I deleted all the plugin folders. I left hello.php and index.php (they are not folders). I then got a different error message = Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_multisite() in D:\Hosting\6120655\html\wp-includes\wp-db.php on line 505.

    I don’t mind deleting whatever is suggested, I’ll go back and re-download the pug-ins or widgets. I can only access my fie manager – not dashboard.

    esmi was kind enough to reply:

    @triviafrog: Re-upload all 3.0 files & folders.

    Switch to the 2010 theme by renaming your current theme’s folder.

    Reset the plugins folder by FTP.

    I don’t know how to “Re-upload” anything – a link to more info?
    Will deleting the hello.php and the index.php in the plugins folder (rendering it empty) make the difference?

    thanks from a knucklehead a.k.a. triviafrog triviafrog.com

  • don’t know how to “Re-upload” anything

    Use the same file manager that you used to delete the plugins folder to upload the WP 3.0 files & folders. I think you may have inadvertently deleted more than you should and the easiest way to fix this is to upload a fresh set of everything – with the exception of your wp-content folder.

    Sorry about having to close the other thread. It was just getting too out of hand. :-/

    It worked. But only to get the the previous installation restored… which is fine with me.

    At the top of my dashboard it says:
    “An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.”

    I will be looking at that forever.

    Thanks once again emsi for saving my site.
