• I currently have a WordPress.com account, and need to switch to www.ads-software.com. I downloaded WordPress 3.0, I have my FTP up and running, have a Self-Hosted Domain through GoDaddy. Purchased a Genesis Theme Framework and Child Theme through Studio Press. Spoke with a GoDaddy rep who said that all should be working. Everything has been uploaded, but my WordPress dashboard isn’t changing. (To allow me to add my new theme.) What to do?

    Thank you so much.

    Just a suggestion:

It’s a bad idea to use your registrar as your web host. It’s why we have different branches of government here in the US–you don’t want too much power in one place.

Also, I would really recommend going with a more experienced web host. Obviously GoDaddy is a popular registrar, everyone knows that. But they are new to web hosting. I believe this is why WordPress blogs on Godaddy were hacked recently–they lack experience. You’re better off seeking out a more experienced host. My 2 cents.

Thank you! Do you have any recommendations?

Have you uploaded genesis and the child theme to the /wp-content/themes/ directory?

You can also use the Install Themes tab found under Appearance -> Themes in the WP 3.0 Dashboard. Just click the Install Themes tab then click upload and you can install your themes as long as they are saved in a zip folder.

If you are looking for a Host recommendation, any of the host found here https://www.ads-software.com/hosting/ would be adequate. I personally recommend Hostgator https://hostgator.com for shared hosting plans. If you are looking for something with personalized support and WordPress installation and maintenance included with your hosting I can provide a recommendation for that as well.

c3mdigital: I am struggling with this and you have mentioned something which I believe is the basis of my problem. I am new to this, don’t know what I’m doing. I have done all the things that stacielou did except I can’t even figure out how to get to my dashboard. You suggest going to “themes” “appearance” in the dashboard. I would like to do this but how oh how do I get to the dashboard in the first place. I’ve been searching the forums for 3 days now….. ??

    oh, I am with bluehost.

Can you provide a link to your site?

Everything has been uploaded, but my WordPress dashboard isn’t changing.

Can you expand on what you mean by this? Did you upload the themes to your site?
