• I was using the previous version of the plugin for years without issues until one day I updated and BAM, I now have a full blown membership plugin active on my site that I don’t need.

There’s obviously hundreds of reviews of unhappy people saying the same thing so I won’t go on and on about how annoying and uncool it was that this happened. But I will talk about one thing that maybe isn’t mentioned as much in the hundreds of other one star reviews: performance.

I actually noticed the bate-and-switch a while ago when it happened. I was super annoyed but I didn’t have time to go and look for an alternative so I just left it.

However while optimizing one of my sites I noticed that ProfilePress is loading a bunch of heavy assets on all pages. So I researched and found the fork of the old version (One User Avatar) and installed it. And now, BAM no more useless heavy assets being loaded on my site.
