I had setup the plugin roles, turned on one plugin (Pods) and manually uploaded another (Set Expiration Date). Then I went to the site, and every page was down.

    I get the error:

    `The page isn’t redirecting properly

An error occurred during a connection to [site name].

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.`

I am able to access the WP dashboard throughout.

When I disable the PMPro plugin, everything is restored.

I have created a staging site to see if there is a plugin conflict, but I cannot recreate the issue in staging. When I turn the plugin on in staging, everything is fine.

So I thought, maybe it is a fluke? Next I went back to the real website and turned off all the plugins except PMPro, and again all the pages were down with the redirecting error. Of course I reversed that so the site is restored.

So initially after I set up the user roles I clicked on a few of the default PMPro pages (next step in your dashboard walkthrough), and at that time the pages loaded fine. But now even with all of the other plugins turned off, PMPro is getting an error if it’s turned on at all. Since it happened after that, I presume it was caused by either of the plugin installations.

Perhaps worth noting that I had experimented with another membership plugin so it could have similarly-named entries in the DB that I suppose could cause an error—though I took care to not have them on concurrently for this very reason, they are deactivated, not deleted.

    What should I try next?

I am very invested in getting PMPro working again as I have received board approval to purchase it for more than one organization.

    Hi @futureisfiction

I’m sorry to hear about the issue you are facing here. I haven’t been able to replicate this issue on my end.

Does this issue happen for every page on your site or only some when Paid Memberships Pro is activated?

This sounds like there might be a misconfiguration on your live site if you aren’t able to replicate it on staging – is there any obvious difference between your staging and live (PHP version, WordPress version or plugins)?

Paid Memberships Pro should not cause any redirect errors, it may be worth it to resave your permalinks to flush them – this often fixes 404 errors and it may help clear this issue.

Any information that may help pinpoint your live site issue or difference between staging can help us focus our troubleshooting efforts.

OK I figured out how to flush the permalinks (much easier than I expected, just needed to resave the permalinks page).

However I am still getting an error:

This page isn’t workingcwc-berkeley.org redirected you too many times.
    Try clearing your cookies.
    ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS

Interesting that this is a slightly different error than I received before…progress? Or maybe I was just on a different browser before.

Does this issue happen for every page on your site or only some when Paid Memberships Pro is activated?

Yes, on every page. I opened five just now.

Did you see my theory about potential conflicts with other previous membership plugin data? However, those plugins are all disabled (though not deleted) I suppose it’s possible they could have left behind data.

I created a new staging and this time it was replicated.

I’ve deleted all the other plugins and switched to a default theme to simplify. I also flushed permalinks again just in case. Also cleared the cookies for the site as the browser suggested. No idea what to try next though.

    Broken staging area is here:

I was able to get the plugin to stop crashing the staging area by installing Meow Apps database cleaner plugin and deleting all the PMP options files. I’ve reinstalled it in staging and all seems to be working. I also reinstalled the pods plugin, but I can’t find the other one I had installed, that allows memberships to expire.

However the issue happened with PMMPro on, regardless of the plugin.

After paying for the premium version of the plugin, the issue re-occurred and it is still crashing my site.

Since I have the premium version I am getting paid support, but I wanted to update here in the spirit of open source, for anyone having this same issue.

After looking at my code, they think the site is crashing due to issues with HTTPS/SSL. They pointed me to this page to help resolve them: https://www.paidmembershipspro.com/debugging-httpsssl-issues/
