    Installed 3.0 manually because the auto upgrade wouldn’t let me, sat in “downloading zip file” forever. Now most of my plugins won’t work, they either lock up my posts or lock up the site completely. Not sure whats going on. Able to activate All in One SEO with no prob, but no askimet which is driving me crazy with the emails I keep getting from comments, no Google Site Map, and no Adsence which is my money, so if anyone has some answers for me I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – increasing the available memory?

    The upgrading problem I’ve been having has been going on for sometime now in fact the last 4 upgrades, so I manually do it at 1and1, their Webspace Explorer (FTP) works just like Windows Explorer, pretty nice and easy. Anyways, I’ve deactivated all the plugins and reactivated them 1 at a time and found the WordPress.com Stats and the All in One SEO are the only plugins that don’t effect anything. I’ve even done a fresh upload of WP and a fresh install of the wp-admin and wp-includes files and downloaded fresh plugins and uploaded them. I tried the memory bump plugin and all it does is lock everything up. I’ve added the code to increase the memory to the config file but it doesn’t seem to be doing anything. I tried to add the code to the htaccess file but I got a 500 server error. Kinda in a pickle here, not really sure where to go now, I’m not a real good code person so I’m a little leery poking around to much. Could it be a permission thing? Is it something with the htaccess file? Could it be in my wp-content file, can I change any of those files without loosing stuff, like some of the php stuff. I may have to increase my memory on my server, but I think I the last time I checked I had plenty to run this site without a hitch and then some. It’s seems to be in WP somewhere but not real sure where to look. Thanks for your help by the way, I really love WP and really appreciate this FREE program and the service you guys provide. Let me know what ya think,
    Thanx Mike

    Just loaded the default theme and tried to activate the Askimet plugin and got the same thing a 500 server error and my Adsence is still not working with either theme, so I’m not sure if it’s a theme thing. Anyways just wanted to add to the list…thanks again, Mike

    Not sure but I think I fixed it. I created a php.ini file with this in it,

    <? phpinfo(); ?>
    memory_limit = 128M

    then uploaded it to my wp-admin file. Went back in and activated my plugins one at a time and checked around and things seem to be ok except for my Dashboard, there’s only a partial view. The right now and recent comments show up but the screen option menu won’t work, hmmm. The All in One Adsence and YPN plugin isn’t showing my adds though, no effect to blog just no adds showing up. Looks like I still need a bit of help but things are looking better.
