Pages are showing up in categories

Today I put the categories widget on my page and noticed that the post count was wrong on one of the categories. I messed around and finally found that my pages were for some reason going into that category That category is also my default category.

I don’t know if this has anything to do with the problem but I did not want to have an uncategorized category because I want all of my posts to be categorized. So I made on of my categories the default for posts and deleted the uncategorized category.

Does it cause an issue if you delete the uncategorized category?

Anyway I have added the uncategorized category back but this does not help. Whichever category is the default for posts is where the pages go.

This is really annoying because on my site it now shows that I have 5 posts in the uncategorized category but when I click on that category it says “Sorry, but there aren’t any posts in the Uncategorized category yet.” So the pages don’t really go into the category but they affect the post count for that category.

It was not always like this so I know I have messed something up but I am not sure what.

I have disabled all of my addons but it does not help so it is not an addon.
