    Hi

I’ve upgraded to v3.0, unlocked the multisite / network side and started adding blogs. I’ve installed WordPress MU Domain Mapping by Donncha O Caoimh (https://ocaoimh.ie/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/) but now I cannot get any of the XML Sitemap plugins to work.

The latest one I’ve tried is Google XML Sitemaps by Arne Brachhold (https://www.arnebrachhold.de/redir/sitemap-home/) and this displays the following error

Google XML Sitemaps is not multisite compatible.
Unfortunately the Google XML Sitemaps plugin was not tested with the multisite feature of WordPress 3.0 yet. The plugin will not be active until you disable the multisite mode. Otherwise go to active plugins and deactivate the Google XML Sitemaps plugin to make this message disappear.

Does anyone know if there is a fix for this or know of an XML sitemap plugin that works on v3.0 with the above domain mapping plugin listed above ?

    Thanks

Thanks gnetworkau. I’ve just installed it and I get a sitemap for the main website. This gives me a sitemap for all the blogs that do not have mapped domains. If the site has a mapped domain then it gives me the following error

Error loading stylesheet: An unknown error has occurred (805303f4)

It looks like it’s trying to find the stylesheet on the original blog address rather than the mapped address. I’ve emailled the plugin author to see if there is anything they can do.

I never had good luck with that sitemap for WPMU plugin, and I doubt it’s compatible with 3.0, hasn’t been updated for 2.9…

There is a paid sitemap plugin for WPMU, but is less than ideal, only maps X recent posts. If someone was looking for a project, this would be a great one to tackle.

xml sitemap feed works for all sites on the network when installing manually to wp-content/mu-plugins directory (as per instructions), otherwise a site by site install should work fine. how are u installing it?

To clarify, I was referring to the sitemap for wpmuwordpress-mu plugin, not the xml sitemap feed which I overlooked when it was mentioned in this thread. Certainly will check it out.

Hi All, thanks for your replies.

I’ve tried the one above mentioned by Otto42 and followed the install instructions to the letter. Basically the main install has an xml sitemap but the sub domain blog and mapped domain blog give me a 404 error.

I’ve also installed xml sitemap feed as per instructions and the plugin doesn’t even appear on the plugins page!

    This is so frustrating ??

If you are installing a plugin in the mu folder, it won’t show on the regular plugin page, it will however appear in the must use section. I tested the XML sitemap feed plugin last night and it worked smashingly with 3.0 and multi-site.

Thanks for your help everyone but it’s still not working in 3.0. I’ve installed 2.9.2 again with domain mapping and XML sitemap feed and all is well with the world ?? I will have to upgrade this one when it’s not so time critical.

    Thanks again

I use Google XML Sitemaps with some modification.

I came across this post and got it working very well..

I just tried XML Sitemaps Feed https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/xml-sitemap-feed and it works perfectly. Even on multi-sites and with Network Activation.

    Few caveats:

    – The sitemap is generated dynamically. This may be slow on large sites. Use a caching plugin like WP-Super-Cache to eliminate this as an issue.

    – If you used some other sitemap plugin, it may leave sitemap.xml files and such behind. Delete these manually.

    – For search engines to find your sitemap, the plugin does put the proper codes into the robots.txt, but only if you don’t have a static robots.txt of your own (WordPress generates a dynamic robots.txt by default, as long as you don’t make one). So unless you need specific robots.txt handling, don’t make one of your own. Let WordPress handle it.

Are you saying XML Sitemap Feed is did not work for you on WP3.0 ? I really wonder why that was… Where you running Google Analytics for WordPress 4.0.2 at the same time by any chance ? There were some issues with XML Sitemap Feed 3.6 that in some cases resulted in empty URLs but you seem to have run into something else. Please let me know if you have issues with XML Sitemap Feed when you decide to upgrade to WP3.0 again.

    @otto
Thanks for the thumbs up on XML Sitemap Feed ( and for adding the tag ) ??

About the generation time issue: I hesitated to build any kind of caching mechanism into the plugin because there are some excellent caching plugins ( like WP Super Cache you mention ) out there that can take care of a whole network rather than some mere xml sitemaps. I do not want to make it a “heavy” plugin so I do advise the use of a separate caching plugin in the readme when on a large site.

Or ( asking for free advise here ?? ) would you recommend that I do put some caching mechanism in place for the xml sitemap feed ? It would not be too difficult I guess…

I have a WordPress Multisite installation using subdirectories.

I am also using a plugin called Domain Mapping.

xml sitemap feed sitemaps are generated for all of my installed blogs EXCEPT for the main domain.

holo-alan : I followed your way , the plugin got installed in less than 2 minutes.

Thanks to RavanH – who got this.

But guys please advise me – I’m a newbie to wp. I’ve installed , now what 2 do ?
