    Hi,

I had upgraded my 1.2 to 1.5, and it seemed to be working, with the exception of comments. Then some drama went on with my server, and to cut a long story short, I lost everything. Luckily, I’d backed up all my data both locally and on the server’s end, but unluckily, I’m screwed.

See, I asked my server folks to restore all of my data, and they did; files, folders, MySQL database and everything. But now, when I try to open up the URL (https://www.venialsin.com), I get a message saying that I haven’t installed WP yet, and need to run the install script. If/when I do that, it runs through the install process, but I keep getting a variety of table error messages, and at the end, the username and password I’m given don’t work.

Any ideas/advice about what I should do (I’m looking imploringly at Podz here… ;-D)?

    Thanks!

  • Morning ??

You have a local backup ? Good, don’t trust your hosts.
If your hosts have finished messing about with their paying customers …. you restore it using the guide I wrote – do not ask the host to do it, they are obviously getting something wrong.

Delete the lot – you have a backup.

When you restore, you do not run /install.php or /upgrade.php, you just blog.
    Restore the db
    Restore the files
    Check the pw in wp-config.php
    Blog.

I’m all restored now, thank goodness. Will probably hold off on the 1.5 upgrade for a few days until I’m more settled in again! Out of curiousity, am I supposed to re-import my database files once I’ve completed the upgrade, or leave it as is? When I’d upgraded, I simply couldn’t access my comments, and no one could leave them…didn’t know how to get around that.

    Thanks again!

The upgrade shouldn’t require you to do anything to do with importing.
I would keep the backup you have, and make another immeditely prior to the upgrade.

Depending on how you view your hosts situation, you might want to look at how often you are backing up the db.

    Glad it went okay ??
