    Hello,

I am not sure when this changed but when I go to the WordPress Dashboard and Select “Updates” I receive a 404 PAGE NOT FOUND error. I am checking plugins that had recent updates but that isn’t resolving the issue. Any other suggestions?

I can still update the Plugins by going to the Plugins Tab…

    Thanks,

    Stephen

Do you still get a 404 if you manually type in your domain’s URL to /wp-admin/update-core.php into your browser? If so, either the file really is missing, or its permissions have been corrupted. Permissions can be corrected through your hosting’s file manager or via FTP (usually 644 is correct, but YMMV). If the file is truly missing, others may be as well. I then recommend doing a complete manual update, even if it’s to the same version.

If manually requesting update-core.php succeeds, then the menu’s link has somehow gotten corrupted. This is likely due to your theme or a plugin. Narrow down the cause by selectively switching themes and deactivating plugins until the problem goes away.

    Hi,
I did as you suggested and manually typed in the domain URL to /wp-admin/update-core.php into your browser and I still received the 404 error.

I tried to update permissions but do not have access to change them in cPanel. All options are set to 7 7 7.

I will try to restore a backup that I recently saved and see if that makes any difference before I attempt the other suggestions that you made. I am a novice with most of this so one step at a time…

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I updated the Chrome browser and the 404 Error went away. I tried my site in Firefox and received the same 404 Error; but when I restarted Firefox the error went away and I can see the Updates pages.

Not sure what happened, but the issue seems to be resolved.

    Thanks again for your assistance!

You’re welcome. Sometimes 404 responses can get cached by the browser, so even though the file access had been fixed, the browser will still report a 404. Updating or restarting likely flushed the cache. Probably restoring from backup actually fixed the problem and your browsers were still reflecting the previous state.

I’m glad it’s fixed regardless of the cause.

    Hello,
I have exactly the same problem, I checked with the URL only & the access rights via FTP but I still have the 404 error.
The files are in access right 705 for the wp-admin file and 604 for the update-core.php or /theme-editor.php files

    Thanks for your help
