Home page style

Hi, I am looking for a theme with a homepage slide show or image transition in the header, (similar to this one) and ONLY showing the most recent article, in full, on the home page. I am new to working with WORDPRESS themes. Can I add a j-query slide show to a customizable masthead area? Also can I find a setting somewhere that allows the home page to show all the content of the latest article? This site will be for an organisation that wants to publish one article a month, not allow comments, but allow sign ups to get email notification of the new article. Any ideas anyone – I have already spent hours trying to find something suitable.
