    Hello

I have been having this problem for about 6 months and it has become quite annoying

If I turn Litespeed off my CLS = 0

When I enable it goes up to between 0.8 and 1.1 which is not great

However, I have absolutely no idea why the cache would affect this

If you load my page you will actually see the shift occur when you load the page on the top menu which is created by javascript, however, If I turn the cache off this disappears and its fine

I am posting as I have simply run out of ideas and maybe thinking about trying to use another cache to see if this fixes it would rather not, as I’ve got everything else configures perfectly.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Its a very bizarre issue i am pretty baffled by

  • If you have Guest Mode enabled and if you check your page at Pagespeed this will ever result in bad CLS. You can test your page at Pagespeed, but disable Guest Mode before.

    Hi

but that’s not going to resolve my error, that’s just moving the error to the side

for example, my google console is saying the CLS is high and needs attention

It is not bizarre, it is logical, but is has nothing to do with caching. It is a consequenze of page optimization. Sounds crazy and it is crazy, because Pagespeed makes the (strange) rules. An essential part of page optimization is to priorize all sources that are needed for fast painting of browser window. Everything that can block this painting will either be loaded async or deferred to prevent blocking page rendering. This works perfect in almost all cases, but the problem in your case seems to be, that you using ads. Ads and scripts must be loaded from external hosts. If page optimization loads these scripts async or deferred this causes content or layout shifting and at the end bad CLS score, although a page is optimized for fast page loading.

hmm true I knew it was that ad jumping but it also said the menu jumping was giving me issues too, I am just not a website expert so tough figuring it out

You must understand, that you can’t get all and not everything is possible, neither with LScache plugin nor with any other plugin for page optimization. Using ads is the worst case you have choosen. It says “optimization”, but not fixing the consequences of something that can’t be fixed without consequences and ads belong to this. It is the “nature” of ads that they cause content shifting, so it is up to you to decide where is your highest priority, earning money with ads or fast page loading? This will ever can be a compromise, but never a perfect result.

well the CLS doesn’t have to be zero I am just trying to get it to an acceptable level, if I could just improve it a little I will be happy

The problem is, that there is nothing that can improve it only a bit to narrow it on an acceptable level. It goes either nothing or all. Tell Google to load ads faster… faster as your own page loads. ??

ha i hear what you’re saying but I can but try right ??

It’s.8 if I can get it to .7 or .6 probably be ok

Boah eye! ?? This is only for your own “satisfaction”. You will not sell more if you get a better satisfaction. Remove ads and you will get a better user experience experience (satisfaction) at your visitors and you will get a better Pagespeed score.

ha true you make some good points ??

There is not much need for ads on this page at the moment

sadly removing the ads has not helped at all which I am surprised about

well it was a good idea but sadly I’ve removed the ads and the issue is still the same so guess that rules that out

I believe I know what is wrong. You have “Load CSS Asynchronously” setting enabled. Please disable it temporary, purge cache and try again.

haha I told you it was annoying thanks for the advice sadly

still exactly the same, such a frustrating issue, I did wonder if one of these settings could be causing it which is why I ended up here

Yet if I turn Litespeed off it goes away
