• I’m totally new to all of this so here goes. My webmaster doesn’t have 1.5 up yet. They must use some kind of syndicated service, Fantastico, to provide it to them. So, here goes …

    1. Should I dl the previous version & upgrade later or download here and begin with 1.5 (would my webmaster have to install that for me or could I do it myself)? What are the pros & cons of each option?

    2. Since WP is open source can I modify border sizes, type & size etc., in Frontpage2000?

    Thanks for all your help.

  • First off, I wouldn’t suggest using Frontpage or anything other than a text editor to modify WP pages.

The WordPress install is very easy and can definitely done on your own without the help of your webmaster. That is, of course, assuming you have access to things such as your MySQL database settings and whatnot. You’ll need to know the settings for your database in order to properly configure the wp-congif.php file, but beyond that, install is just loading a page in your browser and filling out a few forms.

1.5 offers more features and whatnot than 1.2, so I guess that it’s better to use it if you can. If you have access to your database and all that, I would suggest just installing 1.5 yourself, because the install is very easy, as I have said.

Start with the latest (1.5) since it is available. You can do it yourself very easily and you are already at the best place to search for help should the need arise.

I am not sure about FP but if you have notepad you can modify anything you want to. There are many great tutorials in the wild that will help.

Take the leap you will love it!
