Ghost images in media library

I am having an issue w/ghost images in media library and not sure how to resolve it. We had an issue when importing posts with some images not coming through, so we ran whatever plugin again. After sometime, found that in media library it shows 2 images w/the SAME exact filename (no -1 – the SAME). WP-CLI calls the second one “filename.jpg.1”.
I can’t seem to find a method for removing them, for example, remove the first one or second one. For example, original file may have had a date of 2015, and our rebuild was 2020) Once I remove one, the image is gone. Only way seems to be to download a copy before I delete, rename file, and use replace media plugin. There are 200 of them and looking for a better way to fix this. Any help appreciated. Thanks!
