• I remember there used to be a hack called wordpress people that allowed you to have a personal profile page for each friend or family member with a link to that page whenever you typed in their name. Is there a plugin avaliable or similar to that? If not, would someone be interested in developing one? I think many people would find it useful.

  • Is this 1.5 compatible? I was wondering if there was something like that…though I guess I could use pages….

Thanks for the link podz. ?? Sadly, it is only avaliable as a hack and I was just wondering if it were avaliable as a plugin. ?? Anybody else?
    (don’t mean that as rude)

I have it has a plug-in, but haven’t released it yet.
I need to make a few more changes to make it work with WP 1.5.

If you would like to test it out for me, I can send it to you.

What about using the text replace plugin?

My plugin provides a pop-up screen with a bio, picture, and url for the person.

I plan on adding a ‘nickname’ feature so that you would type in a persons real name and the WP-People link shows the nickname.

Eventually I would like to combine this with the user profile, so someone can add their own bio and maybe the author’s link could be replaced by this.

Okay. A little goofing around at work today.
Bad for the boss, good for you. I pretty much finished the plug-in.
I’m pretty happy with it. But, I need some people to test it out.

Check out my forum to download the latest version of WP-People.

Thank you so much! ?? This just made my day. I have loved this hack (now a plugin) since the day it came out.

    Question:
When I tried to activate the plugin, I get this message.

    WP People
You do not have the proper access to edit the WP-People database for this blog.
Ask for a promotion from your blog admin

Also, in the readme, what do you edit in wp-admin/menu.php? I don’t think it mentions what to edit.

You have to be level 7 or higher to add people.
You have to be level 10 in order to update the database.

I’ll recheck the readme, but you don’t have to edit the menu.php anymore. I fixed it so it adds the menu option to the profile page automatically.

I got this error when I activated the plug-in. Originally I had the wp-people-admin.php in the plug-in file (per wp-people-Readme) and it came up with the error the other person above had. Then I left it just in the admin file (per the Readme) and this is what happened:
It still says it was activited.

Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /homepages/22/d95365795/htdocs/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/wp-people.php on line 85

This part of the error shows up on my site too now:

Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /homepages/22/d95365795/htdocs/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/wp-people.php on line 85

And no matter what part of the admin tabs I click on that error comes up at the top.

    AHH!! Big bug!!

Just realized what spirit892 was talking about. That’s an error on activation. I’ll have to check it out.

    Okay. Don’t load this yet.
It’s causing a big error on activation.
