    I am trying to save a story and this is the error I am getting:
    “Failed to save the story: Could not update the meta value of web_stories_publisher_logo in database. (Internal Server Error)”

    I have checked your suggestions on other forums, checked your health status, and disabled all the plugins except for this one, health status is fine, no API issue and still getting this.

  • @djapeorleone Hey there, thank you for reaching and providing these helpful details. Hopefully, you can share just a few more details to help us determine what could be the issue.

    – To confirm did you check if the same issue occurs in a Chrome incognito window?
    – What were the last actions/edits you made before saving your story?
    – Did you use a Web Stories template? Does the issue occur when you create a new story or when you are updating an existing one? If it is an updated story, can we have the affected story URL?

    – Could you please open your browser developer tools and check for any browser console errors?

    If possible, could you share a screenshot or screen recording of the issue, and with your console open? You can use services like JumpShare or Recordit to share.

    @luckynasan Hey there, thanks for the reply!

    – I have tested this out in Chrome incognito and the issue is present there as well.
    – I haven’t made literally any actions before this. I opened up the admin dashboard, stories section and tried to edit an existing story and this error occurred.
    – We haven’t used the Web Stories template but created a custom one. Also, this is happening when we are updating an existing one (any of the existing stories). Here is the link to one as an example: https://www.uptownwithellybrown.com/web-stories/summer-beauty-products-youll-love/

    @djapeorleone Thanks for all the detailed information that’s very helpful. When trying to access your video recording I get an access denied message. Is that something you can grant me access to or re-upload if possible as it would be great to see this.

    @djapeorleone Thank you for that I can now view which is helpful. I have noticed that you are using quite a lot of plugins on your site. It’s possible that there is a conflict being caused by another plugin you have active so this would be a good time to rule this out.

    Please could you follow our troubleshooting guide which will identify any potential plugin conflicts. If you do find any then please let us know.

    @djapeorleone Thanks a lot for the recording that’s very helpful. As the issue seems to be with the publisher logo, could you try removing the logo and re-uploading it? If that fails could you try using another image to see if that makes any difference?

    @djapeorleone Is it possible for you to set up a fresh WordPress install on the same site and only installing the Web Stories plugin? If so could you please try this and let me know if you get the same error when trying to update/publish stories?

    @adamdunnage I cannot start again with a fresh WordPress installation with only your plugin installed because this is a production website with shop inside that is my business and money income. I have reinstalled WordPress with fresh new files and activated only your plugin but the same error appears again. Is there something else you can suggest me besides starting all over from scratch?

    @djapeorleone Apologies I didn’t make myself clear previous. I was asking if you could set up a fresh WordPress install on the same host and not to overwrite your site. It sounds like you may have just tried this anyway and sorry to hear that you are still facing the issue.

    Could I please check with you who your hosting provider is? It is possible that there could be a block coming from the host side such as firewall rules. While I continue to investigate this for you I’d suggest also checking with your host to ensure no blocks are being made on the hosting side.

    @adamdunnage My hosting provider is Siteground. Can you please be more specific in what exactly should I seek if there is a block coming from the host side regarding firewall rules?
    This application is not using any external service, nor am I connecting to some external service. This is practically operating only on the website, and if there were some blocking, Siteground would throw their error 500 referring to a firewall issue. Also, I would be able to find that kind of issue in server tools where all the errors are reported.
    So, can you please be more specific on what kind of request could possibly be blocked with a firewall?

    @djapeorleone Thanks for confirming and your continued efforts with troubleshooting. There could be a number of things on the hosting side which we of course don’t have access to so it would be useful to just check with your hosting provider to see if they can spot any particular reason why this would be happening. It may not be a hosting related issue but it is good to rule this out.

    In the meantime though I have a few other checks that you can do which may help us narrow this down.

    Could you please check the Network tab in dev tools(F12) and find the failed save request. Select the failed request and look at the request payload this might give us a clue to what happened. An example of this can be seen here: https://imgur.com/a/u61P636

    Secondly, a screenshot of your Web Stories settings page to so that I can see the Publisher Logo section with default logo set.

    @adamdunnage I have checked with Siteground and they do not see any issue nor any firewall block that could harm plugin operations.

    I have also checked the payload section in the network tab of dev tools and this is what it looks like:

    It appears that really something regarding logo is the issue but I can’t figure out what and why.

    @djapeorleone Thanks for supplying the information. Unfortunately we cannot spot anything from the provided information that would cause this issue and this all looks correct. As you have also checked with the hosting provider I would recommend at this stage some further debugging with the help of a developer.

    It’s possible that there could be an issue with the database or object cache but as this falls out of the scope of the Web Stories plugin support we are unable to assist with that. From all of the checks we have performed there is nothing we can see that would cause this issue.
