after upgrade – Scan process ended after forking

    I upgraded my server to PHP v8 but our managed hosting won’t allow upgrade to WP v.6 yet. Since that upgrade the scan stopped working. Getting the message “Scan process ended after forking”. I’ve tried the steps in your help document and cannot anything blocking access to wp-admin. The folder has permissions of 755. Is it possible that the PHP version and WP 5.9.3 is the issue?
    Here are the top lines from my activity log.

    I deactivated all plugins and tried the scan and got similar results.

    The scan has always worked before.

    Update. I deactivated wordfence and when I restarted, a new line is in the activity log after the forking:

    Not sure what ‘runInstall’ is.

    In your help documentation it mentions that sometimes a table ending in wfStatus may have crashed. I do not have that table. Is it possible my install is corrupted? If so, how do I reinstall while keeping all my blocks and blacklisted entries?
