The question not being asked: Why?

  • Totally honest question here. Not trying to bash anyone or complain. I truly want to understand what happened to break the widgets in the first place and how on earth do we “migrate” out of our previous widgets and into these so-called “block based widgets”?

    To be more specific:
    The widgets appear to continue working without this plugin, but without this plugin we can no longer modify them through the widgets settings page. This is baffling, and why am I having to discover this by accident? (ok, maybe that was a complaint, but it’s completely legitimate to state it this way)

    What am I missing? How do we update our websites so that we no long need this plugin? Right? I mean, we need to move on at some point and I am asking for some documentation to explain how I go about doing just that.
