Trying to redirect a .html link to a normal link using plug-ins

First, your site is a self-hosted WordPress, hosted with GoDaddy. It’s not a WP.com site as you have stated. But that’s just by the way, unrelated to the issue at hand.

But I’m really curious as to what redirection plugins you tried that didn’t work: this is a very basic feature that ANY functional redirection plugin should be able to handle. The .html extension shouldn’t matter.

For what it’s worth, I tested the first 3 prediction plugins I found when I searched in the dashboard (Redirection, Simple 301 Redirects, and Safe Redirect Manager), and all three had no problem redirecting a URL ending in .html.

So it seems you’re doing something fundamentally wrong somewhere… and not the plugins that are not working.

I took a closer look, and as I mentioned in my earlier post… the problem is elsewhere, and not the plugins.

The .html URL you’re trying to redirect has www in it.

But if you enter your homepage address with www, you’ll see it doesn’t work either: https://www.advocatedaily.com/

This obviously doesn’t need a redirection plugin to work. So the fact that this also doesn’t work should confirm that the problem is elsewhere.

The real problem is that your website is not set up for www to work. This is a domain DNS problem and not something that WordPress has control over.

So, check your domain’s DNS setup, and make sure there’s an A-record for the www subdomain, pointed to the same IP address where your website is hosted.

After fixing this, any of the plugins you tested earlier should work.

That said, if you’re not interested in fixing the www problem, then the URL you should be redirecting should be:

https://advocatedaily.com/Minden-Gross-LLP-Samantha-Prasad-the-fund-library-publishes-samantha-prasads-year-end-tax-tips.html

That is, without the www in front. Again, any of the plugins you tested earlier should work with this URL.

I was able to redirect this domain: https://advocatedaily.com/Minden-Gross-LLP-Samantha-Prasad-the-fund-library-publishes-samantha-prasads-year-end-tax-tips.html

to: https://advocatedaily.com/the-fund-libary-publishes-samantha-prasads-year-end-tax-tips/

But this still didn’t help redirect this page: https://www.advocatedaily.com/Minden-Gross-LLP-Samantha-Prasad-the-fund-library-publishes-samantha-prasads-year-end-tax-tips.html

The www. has to be in it. I will try and fix the “www.” problem that you mentioned.
