How to highlight what category a reader's landing page is in?

    I would like to make changes to the nav bar so that no matter what landing page a reader comes to, the relevant category is highlighted in the nav bar too.

    Currently on my site, it only stays highlighted when the main category is clicked in the nav bar and not if you arrive at the section (within the category).

    Here’s an example which may make it easier to understand (sorry for the content!)

    Here you can easily see that you are in the ‘style’ category of the site.

    If you follow a link to my site, a reader is not able to see where they are on the site:

    Could I do this on my site too do you think?

    Nice site. I see exactly what to do, but it’s tantalizingly out of reach. I click on Travel (I assume that’s a “category”), and a nice CSS class appears on it, current_page_item, and it’s styled to have a different color. But when I click on Destination, under Travel, Travel is no longer highlighted.

    This is a fancy Suckerfish menu, and if there’s an admin area for it, there may be something that applies styles to current menu items, you could try looking for that. If the CSS class
    .current_page_item
    can be applied to the root items for the “current location”, then that’s the answer.

    (I wonder if having content on the Destination (or similar) Page would make any difference… likely not, I suppose)

    Hi Dave,

    Thanks so much for coming back to me – and yes you understand what I want to do perfectly!

    I did already try putting content on the Destination page (or whichever) & that doesn’t make any difference.

    Oh well, I guess I might just to have to leave this for now until I can get a designer in to make all the fancy changes that I need.
