hi! is there a way to apply one or more Groups to a batch of pages at once? I can’t find a way and am not looking forward to assigning groups one at a time to each existing page ??

    thanks!

    Hi!

Yes you can do that, just use the bulk editing on top of your pages table:

    1. Go to Pages on your dashboard
    2. Select all the pages to restrict by group
    3. Choose “Edit” in the “Bulk actions” dropdown
    4. Hit “Apply”
    5. In the Groups field’s dropdown select “Add restriction” and choose the desired groups besides it.
    6. Hit “Update”

    Hi Kento!

That’s where I had first looked – but I don’t get the Groups field as an option there. I get these options to update:
    Author
    Status
    Template
    Parent Page
    Comments
    Display in Nested View
    Hide in Nave Menu
    Categories
    Tags

    Ideas?
    thanks! -Adam

    Hi Adam,

Do you have the Pages* enabled for access restrictions?

(*or any other post type you’d like to apply restrictions to)

Under Groups > Options > Access restrictions – Post types you should have the appropriate box checked.

I can’t imagine any other reason why you don’t have that available, unless if you have this already enabled for the post type, then something else might be interfering.

    Cheers

hi Kento! Yes, Pages is checked off. I’ll try toggling it. and see if that changes it.

ok, did some more digging and I found the issue. We’re using the Nested Pages plugin (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-nested-pages/) for much easier page hierarchy management across 100’s and 100’s of pages. Bulk Edit with Nested Pages enables does not include Groups. Deactivating it does.

So, the question is…is this a question for that plugin dev to “see” the Groups plugin presence and include it as an option in Bulk Edit? Is Bulk Edit a core system function with optional elements that plugin devs may not expose?

    Hi Adam,

I’m not familiar with that particular plugin (Nested Pages), as it seems, it creates a particular UI that might not be compatible.

What we do with Groups is to tie into the standard WordPress admin interface via its API (action and filter hooks), but it seems that they don’t support this – from their plugin FAQ:

    What about custom columns?

Custom columns are not currently supported by Nested Pages. To view custom columns, click on the “Default” link to view the native interface. …

I guess that is related to what you see. Maybe they have to integrate the additions that other plugins can add or you’ll simply have to use the “Default” link to use the original WordPress interface for your bulk editing.

I’m going to mark this as resolved as there seems to be a solution (as above), but please feel free to comment if there’s anything you’d like to mention related to this.

    Cheers
