Link database manager?

  • Hi there,

    I’m wondering if this capability exists in WP core or in a plugin, but my website is very link intensive (mostly external). I’d like to be able to manage links in one place, rather than having to go to each page/instance to update/replace/remove them. One link could be displayed across numerous places on the site, and I like to be as efficient as possible in managing them.

    Ideally, I’d create the link once (in the link “database” or “library”), and then I can reference/insert the link wherever on my site (through the editor etc. and I filter/autocomplete through link “database”, select the link, and have it inserted). And should the link change or need updating or removal, I can do it from the “database.”

    Any plugin recommendations appreciated.

    A quick search for “link management” turns up a whole lot of them. And most of them even have a vital feature you didn’t even ask for: link click statistics!

    Thanks, I did a cursory search for “link manager” prior to creating this support thread, and I did see a couple of the same plugins in your search query.

    Do you have any specific plugin recommendations, as there are several similar sounding plugins, that would meet my need?

    I’ve used Pretty Links in the past, but that’s by no means a “recommendation”. Now I use a dedicated affiliate link management tool (outside of WordPress), as I prefer to keep my WordPress database as clean and lean as possible.

    Your project may have more nuanced needs than you’ve mentioned above. And you may have your personal preferences that you may not even have thought of yet… but will likely surface to your awareness as you research and read about the options and features.

    A big part of your “learning” journey should be researching the different options out there, and trying some of the promising ones to find what serves your peculiar needs the best (and crucially important, what doesn’t).

    You’ll save yourself a lot of time (and learn a lot more) this way, than waiting for days for other people’s “recommendations” (which are often nothing more than their personal preferences and what served their own needs best in the past).
