Visual Link Preview external linking?

    Hi there,

    I’d like to use TA with VLP (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/visual-link-preview/) and specifically with external links.

    I tried to use a cloaked TA link with VLP as an external link but it just renders a Thirsty Affiliate link preview, rather than the actual link destination.

    Ideally, I’d be able to select or copy/paste a cloaked TA link into the VLP widget as an external link (assuming link destination is external) and have VLP be able to retrieve link preview data from the destination, but when the VLP is inserted into content and rendered, clicking it would use the cloaked TA link.

    I’d like to use TA as a link manager (centralized updating and link reusing) and a cloaker with VLP.

    Is this possible or planned?

    Hi,

    We tested the VLP plugin and it works exactly as you described. The preview is from the redirected URL and the link is to the ThirstyAffiliates URL. It’s not clear why it wouldn’t work for you, maybe you could try adding a completely new ThirstyAffiliates link in case there is a caching issue with an existing one.

    I tried it again, and it did what you described (as desired), putting the cloaked TA link in the VLP widget as an external link, did generate the VLP preview of the destination link, while still displaying/using the cloaked link on the front end.

    I did test changing the destination link for the existing slug, cleared the cache, and it still seems to be pulling in the previous destination link data for the VLP preview, but the actual destination link is the new one. SO it appears either VLP is caching the preview data with the slug, rather than retrieving the new destination link info for the preview.

    Is there a way to automatically update the VLPs if an existing slug has the destination link changed, without having to go through each instance of the VLP to delete/create the VLP again?

    There isn’t a way of doing this automatically, unfortunately.
