WooCommerce is only passing the customer’s name to PayPal for “Virtual Products”. It should also populate their email address in PayPal. For products that I ship, it is passing the shipping address but again it is not sharing the customer’s email address with PayPal. This is a problem. I cannot use the “Add tracking info” email generation tool in PayPal if the customer does not have an email address that was populated from WooCommerce. This tool sends the user an email confirmation and also confirms to PayPal that the item was shipped. The customer’s email address should be populated for both Virtual and Actual products from WooCommerce to PayPal. The old plugin, WooCommerce PayPal Checkout Gateway 2.1.3., did this flawlessly.

    WordPress 6.0.1
    WooCommerce PayPal Payments 1.9.1
    WooCommerce 6.7.0

    Hi @autoupkeep,

Can you tell us more about where you expect the buyer’s email address?
Regarding the email, I’m not seeing a difference between the old Checkout plugin and PayPal Payments. Both transmit the PayPal buyer email address (not the email address provided in the Checkout fields), which should be displayed at the bottom of the PayPal order.

Virtual product handling is different as the Checkout plugin sends shipping details for virtual products while PayPal Payments ditches all shipping. This is the expected behavior. But the buyer’s email address should be provided in any case though.

It would help us if you could share a screenshot of an example PayPal order and the corresponding plugin log file, if ‘Logging’ was already enabled. You could do this privately from here: https://paypal.inpsyde.com/docs/request-support/
Please include a link to this thread if you send a private message.
    Thanks!

    Kind regards,
    Niklas

I sent you screen captures of the PayPal transaction page. This problem was also addressed by other users here, but was not answered: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/name-email-etc-no-getting-passed-to-paypal/#post-15868842

This behavior relates to a limitation with the new PayPal Card Processing feature and will be improved once PayPal provides an opportunity. There is currently no ETA, but it should be available at some point we were told.
With the standard card button, the WooCommerce checkout email address should be transmitted to PayPal if the user paid without a PayPal account. This behavior is in line with the same standard card button provided by the previous PayPal Checkout plugin.
The conversation continues in our internal support ticket, so I will close this one for now.

    Kind regards,
    Niklas
