• What is it they say about things that seem to be good to be true? Yeah, that was pretty much my experience with this plugin. No monthly fees? No additional fee on top of the payment processor fee? No charge for the plugin? Sounds good, but here is what happened when I tried to use it:
Prodigy will make you go through a very in-depth application process, where you will provide all kinds of information on your business to certify it is legit. Once you get through that, they will make you go through an application process with a payment processor that is even more in-depth (they don’t tell you that upfront – its the surprise that’s waiting for you.) In our case, even though we have been in business for 10+ years, regularly do business with the US government and Fortune 500, have Stripe and PayPal Pro accounts and have $1M+ in revenue, we were declined.
Why? The payment processor won’t tell you. But I got an email from a Vice President at Prodigy who “felt” that it was because we provided information on our application that wasn’t “accurate” or verifiable. He wanted us to apply again with a different payment processor and this time make sure that all of our information was “accurate” and “verifiable.” Bottom line: they have no idea why your application wasn’t approved, but will assume you fudged something somewhere, I guess? Anyway, don’t bother wasting your time, I say. If we couldn’t get approved being the size business we are, I can’t imagine Mom and Pop shops faring any better. And who needs the added aggravation of the Plugin maker telling you it’s your fault? The problem is their business process which, while a great idea, isn’t ready for prime-time – it’s long, tedious and, in the end, completely opaque – even to them.

The process to apply for payments through the Prodigy Commerce platform is very straightforward. The one-page form should only take 5 – 10 minutes for a business owner to complete.

All payment processors require some basic information about the business and the owner in order to comply with federal regulations. Once we’ve received that basic information from the owner, we select the payment processor we believe is best suited for their business, and send the owner a link to review and electronically sign the application with that processor.

95+% of the applications we submit are approved by our payment processors the same day. The vast majority of applications that are declined are typically for reasons such as: invalid information (e.g., typos), wrong address (e.g., maybe they have operations in multiple states), selected the wrong entity type (e.g., S Corp instead of LLC), business is not in good standing (e.g., Involuntary Dissolution), and sometimes it’s a case of fraud.

It is true that payment processors will not disclose the reason(s) why an application has been declined. That’s because if it is a case of fraud, they don’t want criminals to learn and get better. We know the typical reasons applications are declined because we personally reach out to business owners to discuss the information they provided. Sometimes we’re able to satisfy the processor with the corrected information. If not, we take ownership of completing a fresh application with another well-suited processor since we already have all of the necessary information.

It’s unfortunate that you declined to accept our phone calls or respond to our emails. A few minutes of engagement would likely resolve this issue and get your business approved for processing. If you wish, please feel free to get in touch. We would be happy to help you.
