• The Spectra plugin seemed quite promising, but it’s not ready for use in production. I thought Brainstorm Force (which also develops the excellent Astra theme) had learned their lesson after the disastrous roll-out of Spectra 2.0. Unfortunately, the Spectra 2.13.9 update was just as bad. Worst of all, it changed the last modified date of posts and pages without notice.

Before that, Brainstorm Force introduced bloatware (Zip AI) in the plugin, even for paying Pro users. Initially, it couldn’t even be hidden from the Gutenberg editor. The Brainstorm Force later added a setting to hide the integration, something they incorrectly called “disable” the integration. Even though you “disabled” the integration, the scripts and style for the sidebar were still loaded in the Gutenberg editor. It was first after yet another release they finally offered a way to disable the bloatware.

As of July 2024, Spectra is an interesting plugin to play around with, but I deeply regret using it in production.
