Favicon Disappears from SERP

  • The favicon of my website could be seen in the SERP for the past 2.5 years. But since 5-6 days it has disappeared. I have not touched the favicon or made any changes to the website. Just tweaked a couple of posts. What could be the reason and what can I do to bring it back? My site is

  • The information in the HTML code about the path of your icon is incorrect. It says there:

    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/domains/takeoffwithme.com/public_html/Favicon.ico">.

    The given URL does not exist and is not one used by WordPress.

    According to Google’s specifications here https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/favicon-in-search?hl=en&visit_id=637996221277398144-4094489825&rd=1 the specification must be an accessible URL.

    So you would have to check which component of your project stores the specification here incorrectly and correct that accordingly. Often this is provided by the theme.

    Thanks for replying. I am using the OceanWp theme and there the Favicon has to be specified in the section where you mention the details about “Site Identity”. It was working till now. After it disappeared, I made changes and used the same syntax as Google has mentioned. You can see if you check my Page Source. Have tried everything but nothing seems to be working

    How did you use the same syntax? The theme only gives you the option to select a graphic, you can’t change the HTML code directly as far as I know.

    And as I said, the output was already incorrect before and still is. As far as I can see you have not changed anything.

    I just realized that if we go below on View Source, the Favicon has already been specified by the Theme. Why isn’t it showing up, don’t know?
    Will check with Oceawp. Thanks.
