    Aloha,
I have the problem that in the shopping cart of my shop the default shipping address is always set to Germany, regardless of where the customer is from. Now this causes issues with other plugins and so I wanted to change it, but I can’t.

    I have red this: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/remove-default-shipping-address/
and changed the settings in shipping options to any of the three and had customers from Australia and USA try it but it would still not select the customers address and show Germany as default when the open the cart.
    How can I change that?

Is there a way to auto-detect the customers location by their IP or something?

    Thanks for the help.

  • Hi @rainbowalex

    Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that the default Shipping Address of your store is always set to Germany even though other customers are not from Germany.

I’d like to understand your site properly, can you please share your System Status Report, that will help us further troubleshoot.

You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select Get system report and then Copy for support. Once you’ve done that, you can paste it into your reply here.

Yes, WooCommerce allows shop owners to automatically geolocate customers and display tax rates and shipping methods specific to a customer’s location.

    Hey @xue28
Thanks for the reply and sorry for my late answer.

Is there a way to do the geolocation with having to make a maxmind account?

    Hi there @rainbowalex!

Is there a way to do the geolocation with having to make a maxmind account?

A geolocation file is already present on your server, but it requires a regular update. So, if you create a maxmind account and provide the license key, the IP database will be updated for you automatically on regular basis.

So, Geolocation will still work if you don’t provide a key; but the DB itself may get outdated with time.

If you do not want to use geolocation; you can turn off “Default customer location” setting (as shown below), and every time a new user visits your site; they’ll have to provide their address themselves.

    Aloha @pranavrana89
    thanks for the reply.
Ideally I would want a geolocation but I have read that the MaxMind DB is only good when you get the paid version and I don’t really want to have to do that.

But the DB currently integrated does not work right. I had a friend from Canada try and check and his geolocation came up as Afghanistan. So it’s not working which is why I disabled it for now.

But ideally I would have a working Geolocation, because it does interact with other plugins like Country Based Restrictions.

    Hi @rainbowalex!

I am not sure why it is not working on your end. On my test site, I have set ‘default customer location’ to ‘Geolocate’. I haven’t provided any key for Maxmind, and it is still detecting my country correctly (screenshot attached for your reference).

The license key required here can be a free one; you can generate it as per the instructions provided in this article.

I suggest you try the free key; in case, it doesn’t detect the Country properly, let us know.

It will be great if you could share your current System Status Report. You can get it by navigating to the WooCommerce / Status section of your site. Once there, click on the Get system report button and then copy it by clicking on the Copy for support button. Then paste it here in a comment.

    Best!
