Cannot connect jetpack to WordPress

I created a cloud instance, domain, and site install on Google Cloud. It was a Bitnami installation. Am I going to rue the day I did this?

Now Jetpack is complaining I need to connect it to WP.com, but WP support says it cannot connect to that plugin. Is there a way to overcome this gap? Are there other plugins that require this level of integration with WP.com

Also, if I were to migrate the site to WP.com hosting, the .tar content and site file be accepted without issue?
