    Hi,

    First thanks for your work and this free plugin. But I might have some errors that prevent Matomo to save data for the reports. I do have access to the dashboard with visits log and real-time but that’s it, every other reports are empty as well as the Summary WP page.

    When I inspect the source code, I do have the Matomo script.

    <!-- Matomo --><script>
    var _paq = window._paq = window._paq || [];
    _paq.push(['trackAllContentImpressions']);_paq.push(['trackPageView']);_paq.push(['enableLinkTracking']);_paq.push(['alwaysUseSendBeacon']);_paq.push(['setTrackerUrl', "\/\/aepsilon.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/matomo\/app\/matomo.php"]);_paq.push(['setSiteId', '1']);var d=document, g=d.createElement('script'), s=d.getElementsByTagName('script')[0];
    g.type='text/javascript'; g.async=true; g.src="\/\/aepsilon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/matomo\/matomo.js"; s.parentNode.insertBefore(g,s);
    </script>
    <!-- End Matomo Code -->

    Here is the report I have in Diagnostics:

    I see some warnings (max_allowed_packet warning then warnings in the logs) but I don’t understand all of them and I’m not sure which one I should try to fix. Any help will be really appreciated!

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hello @carnets2routards

    Regarding your diagnostic report, it looks like you have an archiving error: So your raw data are in the visits logs, but they are not converted in your daily reports.
    Some explanations can be found here:
    https://matomo.org/faq/troubleshooting/faq_58/

    Additionally, do you use the Wp-Rocket plugin?

    Kind regards

    Mat

    Hi @mattmary ,

    Thanks a lot for your quick answer!

    I don’t use the WP-Rocket plugin. I checked the FAQ and the only mention about archiving I find is:
    – the point about the Cron, but if I understand correctly, I don’t need to do anything as it should be on by default like said here: https://matomo.org/faq/on-premise/how-to-set-up-auto-archiving-of-your-reports/
    – the second point says “but maybe there is a problem with reports archiving”, OK but what can I do about it?

    I’ll try to see if I can have info on the webserver error logs as said in another point.

    Thanks again!

    Hello @carnets2routards

    You can try to run manually the archiving process from the Matomo Analytics > Diagnostics > Troubleshooting menu.
    Do you have an error when running it this way?

    Kind regards

    Mat

    Thread Starter carnets2routards

    (@carnets2routards)

    Hi @mattmary

    Thanks for your reactivity. Yes I have the same errors. Seems to be a memory problem?

    Matomo Archive Warnings: 'Got invalid response from API request: ?module=API&method=CoreAdminHome.archiveReports&idSite=1&period=day&date=2022-10-11&format=json&trigger=archivephp. The response was empty. This usually means a server error. A solution to this error is generally to increase the value of \'memory_limit\' in your php.ini file. For more information and the error message please check in your PHP CLI error log file. As this core:archive command triggers PHP processes over the CLI, you can find where PHP CLI logs are stored by running this command: php -i | grep error_log'
    'Error unserializing the following response from ?module=API&method=CoreAdminHome.archiveReports&idSite=1&period=day&date=2022-10-11&format=json&trigger=archivephp: \'\''

    And as I checked again the first Matomo reports I see also this line :
    Warning Maximum packet size: warning (It is important to configure a 'max_allowed_packet' size in your MySQL database of at least 64MB. 16MB configured at the moment.)

    I don’t know if it’s talking about the same thing. I reckon I’ll have to ask the person whose taking care of the server and the database to update the php.ini file and wherever the max_allowed_packet value is.

    Thanks again for your help!

    Hello @carnets2routards

    Yes, you can try to update your memory limit. Does it fix your archiving errors?

    If it does not fix your problem, you may have a conflict with one of your plugins. You would have then to disable one by one your plugins and check if you restore your archiving.

    Kind regards

    Mat

    Hi @mattmary ,

    I’ll have to wait for the person who can update the memory limit to see if it works, and they’re quite busy on other subjects for now!

    Thanks for the tips on the probable conflict. I’ll test this out.

    For now, I’ll keep this thread bookmarked and won’t forget to keep you posted on the subject as soon as something is done.

    Thanks again!

    Hello @carnets2routards

    Any chances you solved this?

    Hi @mattmary ,

    Thanks for your concern but alas not yet. I’ll do like you and follow up with the person in charge for this and I’ll keep you posted.

    Hi there,

    Just to give some information on our progress, thought maybe it could help others.

    The max_allowed_packet size was changed from 16MB to 64MB. The warning is not there anymore but it didn’t fix the empty reports problem.

    The memory_limit is still there even after increase (but we’re not sure the change was taking into account). Still investigating…

    Then I’ll try to deactivate each plugin.

    I’ll keep you inform!

    Thread Starter carnets2routards

    (@carnets2routards)

    Hi @mattmary

    The memory_limit in the php.ini was increased to 256M but we still have the “Got invalid response…” error saying that generally the solution is to increase the memory_limit

    Do you have an idea on what value we should set?

    Thanks in advance for your time and help!

    Hi @varunmatomo

    Thanks for your participation. On a copy of our website, I deactivated all plugins except of course Matomo Analytics.

    It says that monitoring is activated. But when I visit the website from a different IP address I don’t see any activity in real time. I clicked on every pages, still nothing. Do I need to wait before seeing the first recording of activities? If so how long? (Then I’ll be able to test the reports generation).

    Thanks in advance for your time and help.

    Hi @carnets2routards it should reflect within the hour. Are you able to check the developers console when loading the page and navigate under the Network tab and search “Matomo” to ensure tracking is active. You should be able to see a matomo.js and matomo.php with positive statuses if tracking is working as expected.

    Thread Starter carnets2routards

    (@carnets2routards)

    Thanks for your help @varunmatomo ! As it was a copy of our production website, the matomo.js and matomo.php were requesting on the prod URL.
    I uninstalled and reinstalled Matomo, this time I have the right URL sent.

    I re-activated every plugins one by one and found the one creating the problem when archiving the reports: it’s the Redirection plugin. I deactivated it on production website and was able to generate reports!

    Alas it’s a plugin we need, any chance you could do some tests on your side or offer some advice to fix the conflict? Maybe I needs to adjust some settings?

    Let me know if you want me to do some tests.

    Hi @carnets2routards sorry for the delay. I have created a GitHub issue for this to be investigated further. https://github.com/matomo-org/matomo-marketplace-for-wordpress/issues/9

    You can add any further details if required.

    Our Development team will be able to further investigate this.
