I’m sorry about the frustration here. I understand that it’s not quite clear what MonsterInsights offers over just using Google Analytics alone. I’m happy to help clarify this.
MonsterInsights is a plugin that makes Google Analytics easier to use and easy to insert into your WordPress site.
If you wanted to just use Google Analytics alone you definitely could. But without MonsterInsights you’d be responsible for inserting your tracking code into your WordPress theme or pages, and then if you were wanting to track more than just pageviews, you’d be responsible for writing and inserting this additional code in order to track other custom events.
With MonsterInsights, after installing the plugin and connecting it to your Google Analytics property, advanced tracking features are automatically inserted and enabled on your website.
With our Lite (free) version, you’re able to track and view critical site statistics (such as page views in the last 30 days, top posts and pages, etc) and automatically track custom events such as telephone and email click tracking, affiliate, and outbound link tracking. You will only be able to view our Overview report in the Lite version, but you can visit analytics.google.com directly to view all of the data that we help track.
