Problem installing themes and plugins
-
I have a problem installing themes and plugins on my server.
I’m setting WordPress up on my own webserver:
Ubuntu 10.04
Apache 2.2.14
PHP 5.3.2
MySQL 5.1.41
WordPress 3.0Problem I have is when I try to install a new theme or new plugin it doesn’t start installing but promts me instead for:
Connection Information
To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access to your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host.
Hostname
FTP Username
FTP Password
Connection Type
Connection Type FTP FTPS (SSL)Even though I’m not happy with that the auto install didn’t work I tried to use the FTP method. I filled out the connection information, but on proceed I get error: “Username/Password incorrect for xxx”
I know for sure the username and password are correct, tried it with ftp client and sftp client from outside computer.
I have been reading a lot to find a solution and to try something I used chmod 777 on all files and directories under wordpress but nothing happens.
I’m pretty sure this is some server issue (ubuntu, apache, php, etc …), because I can put up a WordPress site on another server without this problem.
Can someone help me?
