Great plugin for creating child themes. It does two simple things – creating a child theme and configure Google Fonts. The plugin has great potentials and I think it can go a bit further to be a powerful toolset.

As the plugin name suggests, it works only with block themes such as Twenty Twenty-Two and similar. When I have a non-block theme activated, the plugin link tabs don’t show up at all, and I’m wondering why it’s not working. To make the plugin a bit more user foolproof, the link tabs should show up anyway and provide some warning message when a non-block theme is active.

Also I think we can go beyond the two simple functions of creating a child theme and Google Fonts. The option to add other online font services such as Adobe would be nice (maybe just an easy way the add their embed link.) It would be much more powerful if the plugin can somehow convert or configure non-block themes?

  • Does the google fonts configuration feature mean that it loads the fonts you choose locally on your server instead from google server?

Generally when you use Google fonts or are referring to, they are hosted on Google server. And if you want to host your own fonts, then it can be any font from any source you got the files from and not limited to just Google fonts.

what I meant is for example there is this other plugin “Local Google Fonts” where it hosts locally on your server the selected Google fonts that you are using on your website and that helps your site be GDPR compliant and load faster since the fonts now load from your server, not from google. So instead of you manually having to download and upload fonts, it does that automatically for you with the click of a button. That was my original question, if “Create Block Theme” also downloads google fonts automatically and hosts/loads them locally.

I’m not sure if the plugin downloads Google fonts for you as I didn’t need that feature. Though, you’ve got nothing to lose to install it and find out.

Also, there are plugins that do the job of downloading Google fonts to be hosted on your own server as well.

Hi @skylabb your initial message had some great suggestions, feature requests like this have to be added to the plugins GitHub repository.
