Hi @akdin can you try to rename the plugin folder in wp-content/plugins, and remove all lines from the .htaccess except the default WordPress ones?

On first sight, it looks like a htaccess error.

    Hi Rogier,
Thank you for getting back to me on this so quickly. I am not good in this, but how if I remove the plugin until I get access again to my admin dashboard. Would that help=

That might help, but if it’s the htaccess file you also need to check that as well. So I would try the following:

    – access your site with an FTP client or file manager
    – ensure that you have enabled “hidden files” so you can view the .htaccess file
    – open the file, and remove anything that is not included in the wordpress comments
    – go to wp-content/plugins/ and rename “really-simple-ssl” to really-simple-ssl-x

This should disable the plugin and reset the .htaccess.

@akdin if the above doesn’t help, please email your wp-config.php file so I can check the contents to support(at)really-simple-ssl.com

Then I can double check if there’s an issue there

    Thank you for the instructions.
I renamed the Really Simple SSl as per your instruction on FTP Client
But I got confused by this:
    I found 2 .htaccess: .htaccess and .htaccess.bk
Which one I need to process?
    Also:
I am using on my site 2 other plugins: Wordfence and Hide my WP do they any effect on this?

    (@rogierlankhorst)

The .htaccess. the .bk file is a backup.

I don’t think the other plugins affect this process.

Thank you Rogier! I now got back to the admin dashboard. I removed everything except the WordPress related from both .haccess and that works, thank you so much for that. However, by mistake I deleted also php AddHandler and it set me bak to the version 5.4 from the 7.3. I need now to rea-update the php. But do not know how it will behave if I try again to update Really Simple SSL?

I expect this to have been a glitch, but let me know if you run into any other issues and we will help you out.

Thank you very much once again, Rogier for your help. I updated the php without problem. However, the Really Simple is still deactivated. How can I be sure that if I activate it again and update to the latest version, the same issue will occur?

    Plugin Author Rogier Lankhorst

    (@rogierlankhorst)

@akdin I don’t really know what your issue was, so not sure what caused it.

So that means it is possible the issue occurs again after activating the plugin. If that happens, please send me the contents of your .htaccess file so I can investigate what the issue was.

To be sure, you can create a copy of your .htaccess file. In case of issues you can put it back again. But I would be grateful if you could send me the “wrong” htaccess for investigation.

I am sorry to say Rogier that the glitch occurred again after I tried to activate the plugin. To what email address I can send you the .htaccess file?

I also removed the plugin via the FTP client.
