I am currently researching for alternatives to Google Analytics in anticipation for next year’s decommission of UA and I wanted to ask if your platform is able to track transactions/visits from a Google Ads Campaign? If so, would this need any specific setup or would it just work by default?

In addition, would your platform track WooCommerce purchases? ie. would I be able to see how many sales I made per month/day and which products are most sold?

    Thanks in advance

Thanks for reaching out and for your interest in Plausible!

It’s possible to track paid campaigns and conversions with Plausible. Both for Facebook, Google and other ad campaigns. What you should do is:

    1. Make sure to tag all of your campaigns with UTM tags. We have full support for UTM tags: https://plausible.io/docs/manual-link-tagging

    2. Setup custom events and goals for different actions you want to track on your site including WooCommerce purchases. We have many flexible options for you on how to do that: https://plausible.io/docs/goal-conversions

By doing the above, you’ll be able to follow the visitor journey from a paid ad click to a conversion on your site directly in your Plausible dashboard.

All the UTM tagged clicks you’ll be able to see in the Campaign tabs of your Top Sources report and all the conversions you’ll be able to see in the Goal Conversions section. You can then filter your Plausible dashboard by a specific goal to see conversion rate for all the individual sources of traffic, landing pages and so on.

Google ads by default use unique identifiers which are not privacy friendly and require user consent which is why we do it this way.

I hope this makes sense, thanks!

Thank you @plausible that’s very helpful.
Sorry I’ve got a couple more questions if that’s okay.

1- How can I track the revenue sold per month? Is this also something I can setup through the goals? Or is this not something you capture at the moment? I wasn’t able to see if on the live demo

2 – How can I identify the top selling products? – similar to how GA allows you to track your how many unique purchases for each product and the revenue generated per said product.

    Sure, no problem!

    1. You can send any values including monetary values to us using our custom properties for custom events so that part is fine but we don’t have any pre-built report which sums these up for you and gives you extra insights. See https://plausible.io/docs/custom-event-goals#using-custom-props

    2. If you set up custom events with custom properties for purchases, you’ll be able to see the conversion numbers in your dashboard. Again, this will show the total number of conversions but at this stage, it won’t be possible to show the total revenue generated.

We’d like to work on a pre-built e-commerce report that does this better in the future but I cannot make any promise on when this may be ready at this stage.
