updating themes and godaddy

so i upgraded to wp 3.0 last month. my theme wasn’t ready it turns out. i call godaddy to see about rolling it back. they say that i am still using version 2.9.1 of wp. that was a surprise to me b/c it said 2.7 on my dashboard when i clicked to upgrade to 3.0. now it says 3.0 in my wp-includes/version.php file. godaddy has no record of that update and said i should not be upgrading through the dashboard, that i should only update through them. is this correct? how am i supposed to know FOR SURE which version i have?

i am having a doozy of a time since upgrading, and i feel like i never want to do it again. : (
