I am new at this so I am sure I missed something in the setup, but any subdomains that I set up go to the main site that is in the public_html folder. I made all the changes noted in the Network setup and enabled the wildcard domain (which seems to be why all subdomains are displaying the main site). I set up a test site so that I could get familiar with the process and it seems to work as it should but I can’t visit the site since the url test.trendata.net displays the site that was there from before WordPress was installed. What am I missing?

rename the index.html for this site so wordpress’ index.php can work

Thanks, Sam. That works but how do I keep the old site working until the WordPress is done? I guess I should have put the old site in a different directory. Or is there a better way?

why not just move wordpress (easily done) to a test folder and when ready move it back

If he’s moving a network around he’ll have a lot of urls to replace in the db. ??

dang – you’re right andrea – already had this discussion
    not yet used to multisite

Yeah, it throws people with its little quirks. ??

I bet when you do get used to it, it’ll change. ??

Also: to the OP – the subdomains are going to the root because that’s where apache is sending them. Your host has it set up that way.

Andrea: If OP means old person you got it right.

If I understand it correctly the subdomain goes to the root because of the wildcard DNS but the index.php sends it to the correct virtual domain in the database. I know that is over simplified but I am new at this. My original problem was because I had the old index.html in the public_html folder and it was executing instead of index.php; according to Sam, and that seems to be correct since I renamed the index.html and the subdomains function correctly. Is my thinking in left field or nearly correct?

OP = Original Poster (ie; the first post) ?? But Old Person works well for me too.

Yes, your thinking is pretty much correct on that.
