My understanding is that with WP 6.1, images are converted to webp and served as such, regardless of what appears in my address bar. For example, I can view the file URL in the media library, which ends in .PNG, and access that URL to view the image, but when saved, it saves as webp.

The question: I have lots of users (in house and also customers) who became accustomed to getting product images off of our site with a simple right-click, save as. All of a sudden all they can get are WEBP files, which they can’t work with.

Is there any easy solution for this or are we toast and will have to develop some alternative process to provide original images? I’m not necessarily asking to disable the webp conversion, but I’d still really like access to what I actually uploaded (the originals).

  • That’s not core 6.1 behavior. Are you perhaps using any plugins to do additional image processing?

Ah, okay thank you. It could be that we recently migrated to a hosting service that provides Cloudflare enterprise integration but I don’t get to see any of those settings. Image optimization was mentioned. Maybe Cloudflare is serving the webp images. I’m seeing now that there aren’t even any actual webp versions of stored in my media libarary.

    Sorry for the confusion.
