Hello, after 7 years I’ve just realized that I’ve the most of my woocommerce products not indexed by google.. basically for a quick product publication I always duplicate the last product by changing the details with with those of the new product. Only now (better then never) I realized that wp adds a Canonical URL tag in the dupliacated pages and for what I can see in my google search console dashboard that almost all my products are not indexed or published by google.

Anyone know a way to fix it?

thanks in advance for the help!

  • Show a link to the page that is affected. This way you could see if something is set incorrectly.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I’m not sure I have understand well, you means to post here a link of a duplicated product?

Your problem is rather why the products do not appear on Google. The indication of a link on the basis of which one could check this here is therefore absolutely advantageous.

I have just looked at the page. I notice the following:

    * In the SitemapXML apparently no products are called. Instead, you see a long list with individual XML lists in which only one file is. Even a /maintenance/-URL. Why this is so, you would have to ask at the support forum for the plugin you are using for this: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/google-sitemap-generator/
    * A robots.txt is obviously not existent with you, although it would be essential to point out to search engines what they can index. Even worse: you see an error message instead. You should take a look at this.
    * Did you submit the page to Google Search Console? If not, do it. There you would see what Google knows about your site and what possible indexing issues are.

The specification of the canonical link is absolutely appropriate in my opinion.

    Hello Threadi,

really thanks again for your time, really a gentleman.

-I’ve just opened a ticket for the sitemap plugin as u suggested, the only thing I see not listed in the sitemap content was product categories (I don’t know why there wasn’t selected anyway I’ve included them too now).

-Really strange because I have a robot.txt, anyway another guy told me that it was really unusual and I had to fix it. I take my time to read some instructions in few blogs and I hope that now it’s fixed.

-Yes I saw the inicization problems in the Google search Console, as soon as I have a reply from the sitemap plugin developer I’ll try to click the review button to check if i ‘ve solved the problem.

-About the canonical url I read this:

“A canonical tag (aka “rel canonical”) is a way of telling search engines that a specific URL represents the master copy of a page. Using the canonical tag prevents problems caused by identical or “duplicate” content appearing on multiple URLs. Practically speaking, the canonical tag tells search engines which version of a URL you want to appear in search results.”

So for what I understand if I have 6 products for the same tool (1 original new product added + 5 duplicated with few different details and different content) Google will shows just the 1st one added and not the other 5 duplicates.. am I wrong? do I have understand wrong?

Thanks again for the support mister threadi.

If a product exists in several types, then they are different products. These do not need different part numbers for trade but should also have different URL in your store.

    Example:
A shoe is available in red and blue and 2 sizes. Thus, it exists in 4 versions. Each of these versions has its own article number. And depending on the structure of the store also own URLs.

Again: the Canonical URLs are not your problem. You have some other problem which is related to the above mentioned topics.

Pretty clear thanks, happy to hear that it’ s not a problem becuase delete the duplicated products and re-publish them would not have been a good things to do since costumers who boughts them would not have see them anymore in their downloads.
I wait for the sitemap developer reply.

I wish you a great rest of your day.
