I’m using Redirection plugin to bulk add 301 redirections to a WordPress site. The first time I tried the plugin it created a redirection from the home page to a post (there are many posts in this site – 15,000+). I’ve checked my Excel CVS doc and don’t see how this could have happened. I can’t find the redirection in the plugin settings to remove it and have had to delete the plugin to stop the redirection.

What could be causing this? Should I try importing smaller batches of redirects at a time to see what might be causing this in my Excel CVS doc? Is this a format for the Excel CVS doc I should follow that guarantees the plugin accepts it?

Currently the plugin is not enabled. I would like to use this plugin for the bulk feature as I have about 15,000+ redirects to go from the old site (http and ending in .php) to go to the new site (https and ending in /).

    Thanks, Steve

Update. I’ve added the plugin again and I am trying to add the Excel CVS of the redirects 100 at a time and am checking to see if the bug happens again.

The plugin will only redirect what you tell it redirect. You must have created something to do this, even if accidentally.

The CSV format is shown on the import page. You can use the redirect log to see what is causing a redirect.

Could a redirect with a weird character cause this? Like:

    sports/the_minnie_Mi?oso_papers.php

No, that doesn’t seem likely. The redirect log will show you what is causing the redirect.

Everything appears to be fine this time through, regardless of what was causing the home page redirect. I think we can consider this problem resolved.
