Images are not uploading into correct file

You should allow MU/MS to upload images where it wants to ??
Did you add .htaccess rules and create blogs.dir folder inside wp-content as instructed by MS activation procedure?

Well, I added what it told me to in the .htaccess. Here’s what my current .htaccess looks like.

Yes, I did create a blogs.dir folder in wp-content. Were there specific permission settings for that folder? Maybe I missed them….

Okay, it was late when I posted my first post. Maybe I was unclear. My images are not showing up in my posts. I assumed the folder was wrong because that’s not where my images have gone for my original blog. I went ahead and published this post, just in case it would help for others to actually see what I mean.

The problem is that when I try to post to any of them, WP keeps trying to put the image files into /files/2010/08/ instead of in the wp-content/uploads.

It SHOULD be trying to upload them into /wp-content/blogs.dir/#/files/etc/etc (where # is your blog number).

It should CALL them via URLs pointing to /files/2010/08/

As weird as that is, it’s correct behavior ??

You’re using subdomains, and your .htaccess is correct for that.

Where, on your server (FTP/SSH side) were the files uploaded?

I went into the super admin panel-edit and changed the upload path and file upload path to wp-content/uploads. No dice. I entered the full address, no dice.

Changing that may have broked things. Change it back for starters and tell us what it is.

Ok, from looking at my other sites, I determined this wp-content/blogs.dir/11/files for the Upload Path. I determined https://cooking.thefrazzledmama.com/files for the fileupload url. That is how my other sites are setup, the value “11” being the number assigned to that blog by WPMU. I made the changes and I still can’t see my images.

Just to clarify, I couldn’t see them with the default settings, which is why I attempted to tweak them.

Well, generally speaking, if you don’t understand how multisite works, you shouldn’t mess with the settings. Those settings are 100% correct ??

Step 1) Are the files actually there?

https://cooking.thefrazzledmama.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/11/files/2010/08/ezmuffins11.jpg works so yes. Yes they are. That URL ALSO tells us that the redirects for parsing wp-content etc ARE in there. (the ‘real’ URL would be https://thefrazzledmama.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/11/files/2010/08/ezmuffins11.jpg you see)

Step 2) Is the ms-files.php script working?

When you go to https://cooking.thefrazzledmama.com/files/2010/08/ezmuffins11.jpg it’s actually redirecting, transparently, to this URL:

https://cooking.thefrazzledmama.com/wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=/2010/08/ezmuffins11.jpg

Which also works. SO we know that the script works.

This means that for some reason, your .htaccess is NOT directing the FILES folder only, but all the other code works. This is good.

Step 3) Remove anything ‘weird’ in the .htaccess

That top section of your .htaccess looks like it’s all crap for FrontPage. I would rename your .htaccess to ‘old.htaccess’ and make a new one with JUST this in it:

I’m having a similar problem and could really use some help to figure it out.

I’ve tried the “3 step” method above and my results are:

I’ve tried both the existing .htaccess file (below) and the .htaccess file you provided without successful loading of images.

This is how it appears on the page when I switch to the HTML view – <img class=”alignleft size-full wp-image-917″ title=”meeting” src=”https://tbfaa.devsite103.com/files/2010/06/meeting2.jpg&#8221; alt=”” width=”94″ height=”63″ /> However if I try to access the image in my browser I get a Page Not Found message.

Step 1 fails for me, but step 2 works:

However, another file in the same directory, maelstrom-clarke.jpg, fails with both those links, though I can open that file from the server using Gimp, so I know it is there.

Any ideas? Meanwhile, I’ll have a peek at the .htaccess.

Yeah. The default htaccess in the Create a Network page should be usable for you, by the way.
