[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Best practice for styling lightbox in NGG

If you’ve got need to style the pop-up/lightbox (any of the various effects would be fine) in NextGen, what’s the best practice? I can’t seem to see a good way of doing it that doesn’t involve hacking files that’d be overwritten by a plugin update.

I tried using Lightbox2, but couldn’t get it to work with the latest NGG n’ WordPress (there seems to be a newer version that works, but doesn’t have the styling options).

Anyway – any tips welcome.
