First, thanks very much for all of the work that you have put into TablePress over the years. With versions prior to 2.0, it was possible to create and format the table content in a spreadsheet and then simply copy and paste it in. This is no longer possible. The table must now be copied into a new spreadsheet as text, and then saved as a csv file before being imported. An example of a typical cell content is below. (It may be that the “[” and “]” characters are key to the simple copy and paste because they are not marking HTML.)

[expand title=”Art Club” trigclass=”boldy_mc_boldface” rel=”grps-highlander”]Gadebridge Community Centre, Galley Hill, HH
    <i>Friday 2 weekly, 10:00 – 12:00</i>
    See Digest for contact name.
    See Digest for phone no.
    See Map
    See: Group web page
    Group no: 000
    Email Group Leader[/expand]

Now that [Expand] … [/Expand] no longer works, HTML 5 <details> … </details> must be used, as below.

    <details><summary>Art Club</summary> Community Centre, Queen's Sq., HH
    <i>2nd & 4th Monday, 2:00 – 4:00 </i>
    See Digest for contact name.
    See: Group web page
    Group no: 046
    Email Group Leader</details>

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

Nice spot! Indeed, importing this code with that [expand] Shortcode will indeed not work with the “Manual Input” field on the “Import” screen of TablePress 2.0. I’ll be looking into this to hopefully make this work again!

Just to confirm: Are you only trying to import a single chunk of such code with this method, or something like a full table in a CSV format?

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hi Tobias,

I hope you took some time off over Christmas. The code that we import has typically between about 80 and 120 cells, all similarly formatted. We have a spreadsheet that contains the data, and depending on various Y/N permissions to reveal some items like name or phone, the content for each cell is created. This is then read into another sheet that has three columns.

Originally, we simply selected the cells we required and copied them into TablePress. They went in as text, without the formulae.

With TablePress 2, every line ending generates a new cell, unless it is pasted as a csv file.

If you would like a copy of our spreadsheet, with just a few lines of data, I would be happy to send it to you, so that you can experiment.

    Hi,

    thanks for those details!

With TablePress 2, every line ending generates a new cell, unless it is pasted as a csv file.

Here, you mean the “Manual Input” as well, or the file upload?

And yes, I’d like to take a direct look with your file! Can you maybe email that to me (the address is on https://tablepress.org/impressum/ ).

    Thanks!
    Tobias
