I just installed the plugin, went to make my first story, searched for an image, and the page basically froze and my entire website crashed. When I tried to access it returned Error 503.

Waited for the website to come back up, I deactivated it and activated the plugin again, opened a template, and just clicked “view my story”, the page started loading and my website crashed again: Error establishing a database connection.

When I took a look at my server monitoring on Cloudways, I saw that the CPU spiked up to 100% when this happened.

And before you ask, I tried using the plugin on a fresh website on the same server with a default theme, and the same thing happened.

I also see there’s another user here who is using Cloudways, who experienced the same issue, but I’m afraid my solution is not as simple as his one was. https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/when-creating-web-story-cpu-usage-will-load-up-to-100/

  • Hello @dankop , thank you for posting your topic and sharing those details! The 503 error could be coming from a misconfiguration somewhere on your site, be it at the?server?level?or WordPress?level.

    Error establishing a database connection.

The?error?you’re encountering refers to a generic WordPress error that indicates a?database?error, which is independent of the Web Stories plugin and could be related to particular hosting setups.

First, I would suggest contacting your hosting provider to see why this connection can’t be made or if anything else might stand out.

Next, do you have access to the PHP error/ WP DEBUG logs?

Temporarily setting define( ‘WP_DEBUG’, true ); and define( ‘WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY’, true ); in your wp-config.php file should show you an additional error message that can help track down the issue.

This topic will be marked as resolved since there hasn’t been any further response. Please feel free to reopen it if you continue to experience the issue, or create a new topic for any other questions. Thanks!
