I have this issue when the first variation is out of stock, it does not select any value.

    I have done the following

    1. set all options in the settings. see attached image
    2. added the code snippet “force in-stock default variation when no default attributes are set” from your docs

The auto selection also doesnt work with quick view in Astra Pro when all items are in stock

    Hi,
Please try to disable the ‘Out of stock’ option, and to temporarily deactivate the ‘Variation swatches’ plugin.

Thank you for such quick response. I disabled Swatches plugin and the out of stock option. No changes unfortunately.

    1. Try to disable the ‘Top’ option (plugin settings) and the ‘Out of stock visibility’ option (WooCommerce > Settings > Products > Inventory settings).
    2. To apply the defaults on the ‘quick view’ try the ‘How to apply the defaults on all the pages and not just the single product page?’ from the docs.

Thank you for helping me ge through this. I achieved the default selection. However, there is a downside to this setting. Unchecking “Top” and “Outof Stock” options makes a default selection of the out of stock item if the very first variation is out of stock. This is counter intuitive as i’m not giving the user enough visual cues about the availabiliy of the product.
