Permalinks / Gallery URLs, instead of query strings? SEO and Sharing
-
I’m using this plugin and have found it to be pretty helpful in organizing and managing a wide array of images. But there is one shortfall; a lack of human-readable URLs for link sharing and, it would seem, search engine crawling.
For example, just consider the first gallery on the gallery landing page, A. D. Lewis. I did figure out how to show the query string, which has given me a URL I can point to:
https://duluthdaylily.com/daylily-hemerocallis-photo-galleries/?type_0=gallery&album_gallery_id_0=1
That gallery does not seem to be indexed by Google, at least it doesn’t come up in any results although the main gallery page does.
However, interestingly, Google has somehow found a different page, with a full URL, for another variety’s gallery.
https://duluthdaylily.com/bwg_gallery/daylily-hemerocallis-mkb6-1-unregistered-seedling/
I have no idea how it found that gallery via that URL, perhaps it’s part of the auto-generated sitemaps from SEO plugins, but I sure-enough was able to quickly whip up a URL that worked for A. D. Lewis:
https://duluthdaylily.com/bwg_gallery/daylily-hemerocallis-a-d-lewis/
I realize that the auto generation of the “Gallery of Galleries” might be the reason why query strings, and not actual permalinks are used, but maybe there’s something as simple as a setting I’m overlooked?
Help? Thoughts? Ideas?
