• Hi

I have a lot of pages, and am using Post Grids to filter and organize the viewing of these pages – e.g. all bands in a certain area. I have defined categories for Regional Districts in BC (Canada), and within these categories, I have define sub-categories (e.g. the Kootenay region / category includes regional districts / sub-categories: Central Kootenay, East Kootenay, Kootenay Boundary.

Each page has assigned categories and sub-categories – e.g. one page would be assigned category: kootenay-region and also sub-category: central-kootenay.

I am able to use a post grid to filter all pages with a specified sub-category – e.g. filter by Pages and sub-category central-kootenay.

However, I cannot filter by Pages and category kootenay-region

To explain it a different way, say I had lots of pages on Food, and had categories Vegetables, Fruit, Meat etc., and sub-categories like Apples, Oranges, Pears.

I can filter by Pages and Apples, but not Pages and Fruit

So is that a rule in your plugin – you can’t filter by a category if it has sub-categories????

  • Hi @garrettb,
If I understand your question correctly, you want to filter items between the parent category and sub-category, not the items under the sub-category.

If so, I’m sorry to say this feature isn’t available on our post-grid-combo plugin.

Hi Raju – no, I don’t think I explained it clearly.

I have a parent category, and several sub-catgeories.

I can filter successfully with: (Page AND sub-category)

But I cannot seem to filter with: (Page AND parent-category)

    Regards

    Garrett

Hi – any more thoughts on this? I am still looking for a solution – I can filter by Page & Sub-category but I cannot filter by Page & Parent-category. Is this a limitation of the plug-in?

    Hi @garrettb,
    Sorry for my late response.

You can filter between pages and sub-categories because, by default, there is a relation between page => sub-category.
But by default in WordPress, there isn’t a relation between the page and the parent category.

Maybe, it’s possible with a little bit of custom coding. I’ll play around with the code and give you a solution tomorrow.

    Please wait..
