Hey there, I’m both the WordPress and Google Analytics admin for my client’s website, but SiteKit ask me to “Contact managing user to manage view access” to share the SiteKit view with other roles. I’m not really sure what to do given that I’m the managing user.

I tried to reconnect but that didn’t change anything. Any idea of what’s going on?

    Hi @nazrinn,

Thanks for reaching out. When it mentions contact the managing user, can you share whether there was another administrator who may have configured Dashboard Sharing at some stage, or whether you may have changed your Site Kit connected Google account at some point?

Note that you can reset the sharing permissions if you wish, in order to fully configure Dashboard Sharing once more.

This answer does not solve the issue.

“Contact managing user to manage view access.” persists after resetting sharing permissions.

Sorry to hear that. In that case, can you disconnect the Analytics module before connecting once more? That way, you’ll be the managing user.

Let me know how you get on with this.

I have already done that twice.

This does not work if you are not the owner of Google Analytics, which most website administrators are not.

I don’t want to get over 100 notifications for my customers. I connect the Site Kit to each WordPress console with their GA credentials. In this use case the Site Kit fails.

Thanks for the update @mputman007, and sorry to hear that didn’t work. If you want to open an individual support topic we can investigate your case specifically, in particular if you’ve disconnected the Analytics module in full before connecting once more. Disconnecting results in there being no module owner, thereby allowing other administrators to connect once more. We’ll need to investigate why this isn’t the case with your setup.

After opening a support topic you can share your Site Health information if you wish, while also including a recording of your experience, so I can check this with the team. I’ll also perform some additional testing based on your experience. You can use a service such as Loom or RecordIt to share a screen recording.

I’ll keep an eye out for your topic.

I reconnected my SiteKit plugin and the issue persist. I have all the admin permission, but I believe same as @mputman007, I am not the Google Analytics account owner, or creator.

My client’s GA account existed before I became their web developer, and is connected to their Google Workspace account.

Thanks for the update @nazrinn. Reconnecting Site Kit (via the Disconnect button & then setting up once more) won’t resolve your Dashboard Sharing issues.

The problem that you’re facing, is that another administrator has already set up Site Kit and connected the Analytics module. You can reach out to them and ask them to grant you the ability to manage dashboard sharing access if you wish. Alternatively, if you’re not sure who the other administrator may be, you can of course disconnect the Analytics module within Site Kit and connect once more. I don’t think this isn’t ideal in your case if you don’t have access to the connected Analytics account (which you mention), as you won’t be able to connect the same property.

Do you, or does your client know the administrator who may have set up the Analytics module previously? That administrator can grant you access to manage view access.

    Hi @jamesosborne,

Before I worked with my clients, my clients had a GA account but never used SiteKit. I am the only person who has set up SiteKit, and also the only administrator who has done so.

Do you, or does your client know the administrator who may have set up the Analytics module previously?

    @jamesosborne

My clients are the ones who originally set up the GA account. They have the administrator role of the GA account along with me. In WordPress, said client only has an editor account hover.

Given that new information, what do you think I should do?

Thanks for sharing the additional details. Based on the above, if you’re looking to manage the Analytics property going forward, you will need to ask your client to grant you access to the connected Analytics property. They can do so at Analytics level, it’s not something that can be done within the plugin settings.

Once you’re granted access to the connected Google Analytics property, you can then disconnect the Analytics module within Site Kit (Site Kit > Settings > Analytics > Edit > Disconnect Analytics from Site Kit), and then connect once more (to the same Analytics property). That will allow you to also manage Dashboard Sharing access. At present it’s highlighting that at some stage another administrator set up the module.

Let me know if you need any assistance with the above, or ask if you have any questions.

This is not the problem. I am signed in to WordPress with the EXACT SAME EMAIL ADDRESS tied to the Google Analytics Administrator. This is the Google account used to setup Google Analytics.

The problem appears to be with the transition from UA to GA4 properties. I was able to disconnect Analytics from SiteKit and set it up again, this time attached to the GA4 property instead of the UA tag and now I have the ability to manage view access for Google Analytics.

However, even though I have disconnected and reassociated Search Console with the GA4 tag, I still cannot manage view access for Search Console. I believe this is a bug with the SiteKit transitive trust between SiteKit and the Google Search Console that is apparently created when signing in to the Google account when connecting SiteKit. Further, since there is no way to remove Search Console access only in Site Kit to perform a similar reconnection to only that service like I did for Google Analytics, I cannot solve that access issue the same way.

@mputman007 As per WordPress support forum guidelines, can you please open an individual support topic and we can work with you from there? Note also that when connecting the Analytics module users are asked to connect both a Universal Analytics and Google analytics 4 property. Both must be selected. Let’s communicate on this for your own support topic. Thank you.

LOL. Sure. Google’s transition from UA to GA4 has been a nightmare for all involved. And, I will report back here the outcome, so that other may benefit. SMH.

    Hi @jamesosborne,

I am already administrator of the Google analytics property so I’m no sure what you mean by “you will need to ask your client to?grant you access?to the connected Analytics property”. This is already the case. Here is a screenshot to prove it:

This has been the case since the beginning. I have set up the SiteKit, and I was admin of my client’s Google Analytics account even before I set up SiteKit. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting SiteKit twice, but the issue persist.

Adding to this, same as @mputman007, the email I use for administering my client’s Google Analytics, WordPress site and SiteKit is all the same (the one that ends wit “[email protected]”.

What would you suggest from there?

Thanks for the update @nazrinn. While you’ve already tried disconnecting your own Google Account from Site Kit, have you tried to disconnect the Analytics module before connecting once more (Site Kit > Settings > Analytics > Edit > Disconnect Analytics from Site Kit )? I ask because this will allow you to manage view access once you reconfigure Analytics.

Note also that in your case, as per your original screenshot, you don’t see an option to “Manage view access”. This indicates that another administrator at some stage may have connected the Analytics module, before their WordPress administrator account was then modified or deleted. This could be why there is no option to “Manage view access”.

I’ve made a screen recording demonstrating how to encounter the same error as you’ve described. In this recording you’ll see how to disconnect the Analytics module and connecting once more (from 1 minute onwards). After doing so you’ll find that you can manage configure Dashboard Sharing, including configuring who can view the dashboard.

Here is the solution that finally worked for me:
Reset Site Kit?(Tools > Available Tools > Reset Site Kit), if?“Reset sharing permissions”?option doesn’t resolve the issue for you.

    You will then, have to:
    1. Associate Search Console with Google Analytics (if not already done),
    2. Add any Google Accounts that you want to have controlling access to this data in GA.
    2. Reconnect Site Kit (and Google Analytics), using a Google Account with those admin permissions for GA and Search Console to the user that you want to have share management control,
    3. Reconnect any WordPress user previously connected to Site Kit that needs more than view access.
    4. All other users that have one of the roles specified in the share access “Who may View” can connect to site kit by clicking on “Skip sign-in and view limited dashboard” link in the Site Kit setup.
