• Hello folks. Firstly, sorry if this is the wrong forum.

So I recently decided to merge my portfolio site with another project I had been working on (https://www.journyintogeekery.com) that I no longer have time to keep going.

I changed the project site name and URL in WordPress to the name/ URL of the portfolio site and then changed the portfolio site’s nameservers to march the project sites (it had previously used Google’s – I also stopped the project URL pointing to the nin-Google nameservers )

However, now when I try to access the portfolio URL I get a “DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN” error message. I’m pretty sure this isn’t an issue with my device as I tried it using network data on my phone and I get the same error.

When I try to access the project URL, it redirects to the portfolio with the same error message as above. I can not log into the WordPresss install either (log in page can’t be found).

I read that it was possible to overwrite the changes in the WordPress wp-config files, but this did not seem to work either, so I changed the wp-config back to how it was after the URL/site name change.

I’ve spent the last few hours reading support documents but nothing I’ve tried seems to work. I’ve tried to restore a backup I made through cPanel, but the system is telling me that it’s missing files, which I don’t really understand as the ZIP only contains one file (so maybe the backup didn’t work correctly when created?).

If anyone could provide any help it would be much appreciated. If it’s easier to just create a brand new install of WordPress, then I’m prepared to do that, but I’d prefer to try and save what’s already there if possible.

Thanks very much in advance for any help.

The site you have trouble with is the one you’ve indicated you need help with in your OP, right? Seems like a dumb question, but I want to be sure I’m correctly understanding your topic.

That site seems to be working as far as it goes. There’s no DNS error. The site just has a coming soon message, but wp-login.php is accessible. It looks like it’s working.

DNS changes can take a while to propagate. If you try to access a site too soon afterwards, you can get strange error messages. Once fully propagated all should be fine if the changes were made correctly. While propagation often only takes an hour or so, in some cases it can take much longer, perhaps up to 48 hours. A site like this can be useful: https://www.whatsmydns.net/
