• hi guys, im using the latest version of WP and have installed the ‘Facebook Comments for WordPress’ plugin by Graham Swan.

the plugin works fine and shows all the FB users’ comments at the end of my posts, however, I can’t see the name of the people who only ‘like’ my posts on WP. All i get is the ‘5 others like this’ info and it doesn’t give me the names of the people who liked it

will it only list the people who are in my fiends list? or am i missing something here?

you can see an example here:

    all help appreciated
    HH

  • Herbie, I responded to you on Facebook, but I’ll respond here for other people to see.

You can only see the names of your friends who Like a page. Others will simply show up as a number.

That’s the way the Facebook Like button works.

    yep, sure did
    thanks!

hi! i’m really very new to all this and had the same question. please, please bear with me – could you explain a little further? you say i can only see names of friends who like a page, meaning what…the facebook page i set up promoting my blog, or did i misunderstand what page you’re referring to? and the ones who just show up as a number only liked it on the actual blog itself? not sure if i got that right…i’m a little confused.
for my latest blog entry that i just put up, on my facebook page for it, one person liked it so far (someone on my friend list), and on my blog itself it shows 5 other friends liked it (with their names), plus 17 “other” people. so i’m guessing those other people all like it directly on the blog? does it mean that i don’t know those 17 other people…? since this is all new i’d think that if anyone was liking it that i’d know them! ?? if i’m friends with them why won’t their name show up like the 5 other people i’m friends with whose names did show up? just trying to figure out the different between the 5 with names, the 17 without names, and the 1 person who liked it on facebook. where they’re liking it and why i can’t see some of them. hope that makes sense. there’s no way to find out who they are?
sorry for all the (possibly dumb) questions and thanks in advance for your patience with me! ??

oops, i case it helps, this is my blog so you can see what i mean…

    thanks!

    mvserritella,

I’m not entirely sure how Facebook Likes work. I’m under the understanding that if someone who is your friend on Facebook Likes a post, their profile pic will show up. Anyone else who Likes a post (and isn’t your friend on Facebook) will just show up in the “17 others” part of the statement.

    That’s my best guess.

does it mean that i don’t know those 17 other people…?

That’s exactly what it means. Anybody can click the like button, but you only see the names and pictures of people who are your Friends on Facebook and who also clicked the like button.

oh ok, thanks so much Otto and Graham! ??

See, I thought that’s the way it always worked, but then today, only one name showed up under the like button and “7 other people”, but then I saw it was liked by two of my friends through their newsfeed…so now I’m thinking it doesn’t always show my friends. Maybe it’s just a facebook quirk, but it drives me bonkers.

    Any updates on this topic.

This has been bugging me as well lately. I find it hard to believe that I don’t know any of the “17 others.”
And if so, I’d like to know them. ??
Is there anyway to have all of the pictures and names show up?
