• Hi everyone,
I’m in the process of building a blog for a friend, and we’d like to lock it down for the time being so we can work on it privately. The problem is, the WP dashboard isn’t giving me a third option to make things entirely private. I’m just getting the “I would like my site to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Bing, Technorati) and archivers” and “I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors”.

If it helps, the address is https://blog.sequoyahshoars.com. I’ve already updated to the latest version of WP via the dashboard, but still no luck. Any ideas?

  • You can install one of the “Maintenance Mode” plugins that lock out all but admins. I

You could also use web server controls — e.g. .htaccess password access or .htaccess deny/allow from specific IP addresses.

There’s really no option within WP to make the blog private? I’m really quite surprised.

I’ll look into the plugins, I guess. Thanks.
